The AutBus (Autonomous Bus) project is a collaboration between OTH Amberg-Weiden and AVL.

An autonomously operating bus line in the region transports residents from A to B. Passengers can book their ride with the help of an app.

The goal is to design a flexible, cost-effective and climate-neutral solution for more mobility in rural regions. The focus of the AutBus project is on the development of the autonomous driving function, the construction of the demonstrator and the necessary infrastructure measures.

An initial trial phase will start in spring 2023.

The AutBus can now be controlled by our very own AVL software. Great step forward for the realization of the AutBus project. Our vehicle returned from the assembly of the SpaceDrive system by Schaeffler Paravan Technologie GmbH & Co.KG and we already assembled the Sensors, DGT, Ajunic and HMI-components here at AVL in Roding. See in the video how the vehicle is driving without any safety-driver’s intervention.

AutBus in DGT Testbed

The first year of exciting work on the AutBus project is almost over. Great concepts for the realization of an autonomous on-demand bus line for rural areas have been created and the software implementation has started. The test vehicle (VW T6.1 ABT electric) has been bought and the necessary conversions of the vehicle are in full swing. Thanks to our partner Schäffler Paravan.

Let’s continue this great success throughout the next project year!
