Virtual validation of ADAS/AD sensor technology in simulation

The complexity of automated systems is reflected in their test effort. In the development process, the scope of validation of these systems is therefore shifted to simulation and later supplemented with real driving tests. In the VIRTABS-ADSiS project, already specified test methods and processes as well as test scenarios are transferred to rural use cases in a corresponding simulation environment. In doing so, a virtual test environment enables the evaluation of different sensor types in the form of sensor concepts and sensor model implementations. A key factor in testing in a simulation environment is high-quality sensor models. These complex sensor models, which virtually represent a real sensor and thus reflect a realistic behavior, are developed and continuously optimized. In addition to the defined test scenarios, various environmental simulations such as weather effects, dirt and aging are taken into account in the simulation.
